Local Leagues Round Up

A round up of the Local Chess Leagues in Lancashire, as we finish off the season and prepare for the summer break.

There are three main leagues in Lancashire. These are the East Lancashire Chess League, the Blackpool and Flyde League and the Central Lancashire Chess League.

A smaller league operate in the Lancaster and Morecambe area, aptly known as the Lancaster, Morecambe and District League.

East Lancashire Chess League

League Tables for the East Lancashire Chess League

Division One winners are BURNLEY A who went undefeated through the season. Division Two winners are newcomers to the league, HEYWOOD.

There are two cup tournaments, the Lucas Shield where BURNLEY beat CLITHEROE in the final.

Blackpool and Fylde League

League Tables for the Blackpool and Fylde League

Division One winners are PRESTON 1 pipping PRESTON 2 for the title. In Division Two PRESTON 4 run out winners in the end.

The Challenge Cup was won by PRESTON, who defeated LYTHAM in the final. The Rapidplay Cup has yet to be completed.

Central Lancashire Chess League

League Tables for the Central Lancashire Chess League

A close affair in Division One, with a “tie” for first place with equal points and equal board count. Joint winners for the year are ATHERTON and PRESTON.

Meanwhile, in Division Two HEYWOOD A ran out comfortable winners in the end.

The Vaux Cup was won by LEYLAND who defeated HEYWOOD in the final.

The John Birchall Cup final is still outstanding, and we await the outcome between ATHERTON and ROCHDALE.

Lancaster, Morecambe and District League

League Table for the Lancaster, Morecambe and District League

The League winners are KENDAL.

LANCASTER won the Lansil Cup, and Bare Village won the Nolan Cup.
