Junior Congress Calendar

  • Sept 30 LCA Congress - Aughton

Despite horrendous travelling conditions and numerous withdrawals as a result on Friday and Saturday, there was still a decent turnout for this congress. Sadly, because of a miscommunication, the heating was not on, but residual warmth from school the previous day prevented frostbite! Many thanks to all the children playing through less than ideal playing conditions.

The Kings was quite evenly fought, with Kyle Pelling emerging King on the day, taking a grandmasterly draw in the last round! Mohammed Benhamida finished just a half point behind.

Dawn Supatan ran away with the Rooks section with a clean 7/7. Ben Walker and Freddie Wood finished equal second - I didn't have the heart to get them to face a play off in the playing hall which was rapidly losing any heat left.

Ilham Ahmad (son of Anton, who alongside his wife helped me to organise throughout the day - many thanks!) won the pawns section with 6/7. Nareen Lakshman was second on 5 points, with a very good 4/7 from debutant Sol Woodstock in third.

Fellow debutant Sebastian Barrow won the tiny pawns with 6/7, despite him feeling that hypothermia may set in at any moment. James Miller was second with 5/7.

Many thanks to Brian Corbett for all his communications with the school, and for running the food and drink all day - greatly welcomed by myself and all the parents.
